I'm going to try to do my best to avoid spoilers, but the actual subject matter of the book makes it almost impossible to talk about without some leaking of details. So I picked up my copy without hesitation and headed home to dig in. But I knew plenty about this book before it even hit the shelves, as the word-of-mouth buzz has been loud and insistent regarding this author's first SF novel. ![]() I mean, the title alone would have been enough for me to pick it up and read the inside jacket for more details. Quantum Thief, by Hannu Rajaniemi, falls into that last category. Fortunately, most SF books *are *enjoyable (as fiction entertainment goes), and even those that don't strike my fancy will still exhibit elements that other readers are sure to enjoy given the wide range of SF interests out there. books that I would gladly warn others to steer clear. ![]() ![]() Now, in all the years I've been reading science fiction, I can truly say that only maybe a dozen or so have been solid disappointments. Out of respect to the writer, I try to follow that rule my son is now learning - if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I know how difficult it can be to write a book, and I know that in addition to large amounts of time and planning, a writer also has a personal involvement with his or her books.
